Cantor Aviva Katzman

A lyric soprano, Cantor Aviva Katzman earned both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in voice performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

After earning a Master’s of Sacred Music from Hebrew Union College and being invested as a cantor in 1987, Cantor Katzman became the first female member of the Jewish clergy in Chicago. She has served on the national board of the American Conference of Cantors. She participated in the first cantors' cohort of the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, and is active in the Institute's Hevraya studies. She has been an annual co-officiant of the Anti-Defamation League’s African-American Jewish Freedom Seder since its inception. She treasures the opportunity to cultivate musically gifted congregants of all ages, particularly when their gifts were previously undisclosed.

To contact Cantor Katzman, you may call Iona Klimoski, Executive Assistant, at 773-435-1533. Or, please email Iona at IonaK@sholomchicago.org.
