COMMITTEES
• Adult
Education – Add your voice and suggestions
to help maintain and create educational programs and classes
for adult learners. Get involved in the decision-making process
for speakers and weekend scholars and support our highly successful
efforts in continuing the quest to ensure that Temple Sholom
remains a “congregation of learners.”
• Ambassador Program
- Help Temple Sholom fulfill the Mitzvah of “Welcoming the Stranger!” Volunteer a little bit of your time and good spirits and become a Temple Sholom Ambassador today. Temple Sholom Ambassadors will have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of our newest Temple members. As an Ambassador, you’ll participate in the activities you enjoy while meeting new people and helping them feel at ease in our congregation. Download the Temple Sholom Ambassador application and sign up for this exciting new program today! Contact Membership Director, Josie A.G. Shapiro for more information.
• Caring - Help reach out to congregants and beyond. Caring Committee
members are there to help our congregants in time of personal
need, aiding our elderly with errands and visits, and reaching
out beyond our walls with projects such as the Night Ministry.
•
House – Experience in building maintenance and improvements?
The House Committee assists in the overall maintenance of and
improvements to our beautiful historic building.
•
Membership – Bring your ideas, creativity and enthusiasm
to develop and maintain our Temple Sholom family. Through personal
contacts, expanded communications and social interactions,
the Committee welcomes and integrates members.
•
Religious School – This committee helps our Religious
School continue to provide a high-quality Jewish education
for our children.
•
Social Action – Tikkun Olam, ‘repairing the world’ is
a cornerstone of Reform Judaism and an integral part of the
on-going activities at Temple Sholom. The projects and activities
are constantly expanding, and working on these mitzvot is a
wonderful way to meet other Temple members. Projects and activities
include a monthly Feed the Hungry Program working shoulder-to-shoulder
to pack bag lunches for the homeless of Chicago; High Holy
Days Food Drives; clothing drives; and discussions and actions
that impact social policy issues locally and nationally.
•
Worship – Ritual and Services are important to the spiritual
experience. Join the Worship Committee and work with our clergy
and lay leadership as we review the nature of the worship experiences
and address changing needs.
