We welcome Dr. Leonard Fein to Temple Sholom on Friday evening, April 20. Dr. Fein has been a leading voice for social action in the Jewish community for decades. In 1970, he joined the faculty of Brandeis University, where he was Professor of Politics and Social Policy and, for six years, the Klutznick Professor of Contemporary Jewish Studies.
In 1974, Dr. Fein founded Moment magazine, which under his leadership as editor and publisher became America's leading independent magazine of Jewish affairs. In 1985, he founded Mazon: A Jewish Response to Hunger, which has become central to the American Jewish community's campaign against world hunger. And in 1996, he founded the National Jewish Coalition for Literacy, a project for mobilizing the American Jewish community to provide volunteer tutors for the Read America program.
From 1996 to 2000, he served as Director of the Commission on Social Action of the Reform Jewish movement. Dr. Fein has written more than 900 articles and essays and the books Where Are We? The Inner Life of America's Jews, Israel: Politics and People and most recently, Against the Dying of the Light: A Story of Love, Loss, and Hope.

Olam HaMitzvot Schedule
Sunday, April 22

On Sunday, April 22, Temple Sholom will offer multiple opportunities to perform mitzvot in our community. Starting at 9:00 a.m., the Brotherhood will run a blood drive and Charles Ifergan's hair stylists will again be here to stylishly remove five-ten inch length ponytails for Locks of Love.
Our Religious School children will participate in a variety of projects including assistance for the Treehouse Animal Shelter. At 11:45 a.m. there will be an assembly when children will discuss their work and adults can learn about afternoon projects. A hearty lunch paid for by Temple Sholom's Fund for Social Justice will energize us for the remainder of this important day. Join us for lunch at 12:15 p.m.
Afternoon projects will include plantings at Agudas Achim, the historic synagogue in Uptown, a visit to Friedman Place (formerly Kagan Home for the Blind) to play bingo with residents, or a trip with our dogs to the Kenwood Home. Congregants can stay at the Temple to construct Dolls for Darfur, or to knit and piece together blankets with the Women of Reform Judiasm for Warm up America.
