Social Action (TIKKUN OLAM)

Tikkun Olam, ‘repairing the world’ is a cornerstone of Reform Judaism and an integral part of the on-going activities at Temple Sholom. Our Social Action projects and activities are constantly expanding, and working on these mitzvot is a wonderful way to meet other Temple members.

Projects and activities include a monthly Feed the Hungry Program working shoulder-to-shoulder to pack bag lunches for the homeless of Chicago; High Holy Days Food Drives; clothing drives; and discussions and actions that impact social policy issues locally and nationally. In the fall of 2004, Temple Sholom introduced our new Social Action Program, the Monthly Monday Meal. On the fourth Monday of each month, volunteers at the Temple prepare and serve a warm meal to less fortunate members of our community.

Each year, a Social Action calendar is published, outlining the year’s events, programs, and volunteer opportunities. To view the 2006-2007 calendar, click here.
