6:45 PM - 9:00 PMZoomIn the spirit of pride and community, Jewish congregations and Chicago’s Keshet for LGBTQ+ Equality in Jewish Life are coming together, again, to host a ZOOM virtual pride program on Saturday, October 2nd. Beginning at 6:45 PM, participants may gather virtually for optional schmooze time and at 7:11 PM everyone will participate in a Havdalah service. Following the service, a pride-themed program of engaging talks, music and other performing arts will be presented.
The Havdalah service is the traditional closing ritual of the Jewish Sabbath held after sundown with prayers and songs of hope for a happy week. It is deeply spiritual and incorporates several ritual items including wine, spices, and the extinguishing of a special braided candle. This event is scheduled to take place on the evening preceding this year’s Chicago’s Annual Pride Parade.
Rabbi Memis-Foler, "Judaism teaches us that we are all created b'tzelem Elohim, "in the image of God." No matter what our identities, we should treat one another with the dignity we offer to the Divine."
